After Kejriwal resigned, Atishi became the new chief minister of the capital region of India. Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, made the announcement in a New Delhi meeting with the legislators from his party.
Following the departure of incumbent Arvind Kejriwal, minister Atishi of Delhi will assume the role of chief minister of India’s national capital region, according to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
AAP leader Amit Shah made the declaration on Tuesday in New Delhi during a meeting with his party’s lawmakers.
The AAP released a statement that stated, “Atishi steps up to lead Delhi until the upcoming elections, carrying the weight of both CM Arvind Kejriwal’s vision and the national capital’s future.”
Atishi, 43, is a well-known member of the party that was founded ten years ago and swiftly gained traction in mainstream politics, although having less influence than more established opposition groups in India. In the local government, she has held a number of positions, including those in finance and education.
On Monday, only one day after being released from jail on bail in connection with a corruption investigation, Kejriwal, 56, announced his resignation as Delhi’s chief minister. According to the AAP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was behind the “political conspiracy” that led to his imprisonment.
“I’ve come to ask the public today: Do you think that Kejriwal is an honest person or a criminal? Two days from now, I’m going to step down as chief minister and ask people whether I’m honest,” he declared on Sunday.
As Delhi’s chief minister since 2015, Kejriwal is a staunch opponent of Modi and a longtime anticorruption activist. His AAP party is a part of the INDIA alliance, which is led by the Congress.
The Supreme Court of India granted Kejriwal bail on Friday, six months after he was arrested on suspicion of violating the city’s liquor ordinance.
After the announcement on Tuesday, Atishi stated in an interview with reporters that she would serve as chief minister “for a few months till [state legislative assembly] elections,” which are scheduled for February of the next year.
“I’ll strive for a single objective. She referred to the departing leader as her “guru” and declared, “We have to make Arvind Kejriwal the chief minister of Delhi once again” (mentor).
My family is a typical one. Maybe I never would have received an election ticket if I had been in any other party. However, Arvind Kejriwal put his trust in me, elevated me to the rank of minister and MLA, and now bestowed upon me the chief ministerial responsibilities, the speaker continued.
Swati Maliwal’s Remark on Atishi Chief minister position
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called for Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal’s resignation due to her comments about senior leader Atishi, who would take over as Delhi’s next chief minister.
Despite being sent to the Rajya Sabha by the AAP, Ms. Maliwal reads the BJP’s script, according to senior party leader Dilip Pandey.
“Swati Maliwal accepts the AAP’s ticket for the Rajya Sabha, but she accepts the BJP’s response script. Mr. Pandey stated, “If she is even slightly ashamed, she ought to step down as a Rajya Sabha MP and opt to run for the Rajya Sabha on a BJP ticket.”
The request for her resignation is the last straw in a severe divide that Ms. Maliwal and the party have been experiencing since she claimed that Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Mr. Kejriwal, had beaten her at the Chief Minister’s residence.
For Delhi, today is a really depressing day. A woman is being appointed Chief Minister of Delhi today; her family fought a protracted battle to prevent terrorist Afzal Guru from being hanged. In an internet post, Ms. Maliwal stated, “His parents begged the Honorable President for mercy in order to save terrorist Afzal Guru.
The request for her resignation is the last straw in a severe divide that Ms. Maliwal and the party have been experiencing since she claimed that Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Mr. Kejriwal, had beaten her at the Chief Minister’s residence.
Statement from Swati Maliwal
Atishi will take over as chief minister from Arvind Kejriwal, who is expected to step down this evening, according to an announcement made by the AAP this morning. Mr. Kejriwal has promised not to hold the top position till the people elect his party again in the upcoming polls.
