According to reports, OpenAI, the firm that created ChatGPT, is in talks with Apple and Nvidia to invest as part of a new fundraising round. According to media sources, OpenAI may be valued at more than $100 billion after this round.
Apple is reportedly looking into the possibilities of participating in the fundraising round, according to The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg News mentioned Nvidia’s possible involvement. This follows reports that venture capital firm Thrive Capital, which is spearheading OpenAI’s current fundraising efforts, intends to spend roughly $1 billion in the company.
The use of OpenAI in Apple’s AI strategy has grown. Under the “Apple Intelligence” project, Apple released ChatGPT, an OpenAI chatbot, on its devices in June. Furthermore, it has been claimed that Apple will be added as an observer to OpenAI’s board, indicating the strengthening partnership between the two businesses.
It is anticipated that Microsoft, the biggest investor in OpenAI with almost $10 billion invested, will take part in this next round of funding. The precise sums that Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple want to invest have not been made public.
The fierce competition in the AI space, which grew more intense following ChatGPT’s introduction in late 2022, is the cause of OpenAI’s increasing valuation. In order to stay competitive, businesses in a variety of industries invested billions on AI technology as a result of this launch. After selling its existing shares in a tender offer headed by Thrive Capital earlier this year, OpenAI was valued at $80 billion.
