It has been in news for a while that Jay Shah will be going to be elected as the next ICC Chairman for a while. So the news get confirmation on 27th Aug. He was selected unopposed as the new ICC Chairman replacing Greg Barclay.
So now the BCCI secretary post he has to leave for this. His tenure will going to start from Dec 1. Shah will become the ICC’s youngest head at the age of 36. With the opportunity to serve an additional three years, he will occupy office for a tenure of three years. Shah has held the position of BCCI since 2019, but he will now have to give it up.
Shah was the only candidate for the Chair, according to the ICC, and it has been discovered that a few sets of nominations were submitted on his behalf. The 16 current directors submit nominations by putting up their names in accordance with the guidelines. The paperwork does not have to be filed by the candidate.
Finding a new Independent Woman Director for the ICC is one of Shah’s top priorities right now. As reports originally revealed, the role is empty as Indra Nooyi’s employment ended last month. Managing Disney Star’s desire for a renegotiate of the massive $3 billion broadcast arrangement is another significant duty. Above all, he must guarantee a seamless handover of power at the BCCI.
With cricket scheduled to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Shah stated his intention to expand the sport’s appeal on a worldwide scale. He sees this as a critical juncture for the sport’s development.
“I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council,” Shah said. “In order to further globalize cricket, I’m determined to collaborate closely with the ICC team and our member countries. At this pivotal moment, it is more crucial than ever to encourage the adoption of cutting-edge technology, strike a balance between the coexistence of many forms, and expand the reach of our major events into new international markets. Our objective is to increase cricket’s appeal and inclusivity to an unprecedented degree.”
