For the first time in forty-five years, Indian Prime Minister PM Modi arrives in Warsaw.

It has been 45 years since an Indian prime minister visited Poland, and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi is here. This evening, PM Modi touched down in Warsaw, the first stop on his two-nation tour that also includes a visit to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
The final prime minister to visit Poland was Morarji Desai in 1979.

In Warsaw, PM Modi received a formal welcome. “Modi, Modi” chants were heard as he was greeted warmly by the Indian population. The prime minister shook hands with a few of the attendees and waved to the group.

The prime minister is anticipated to speak with Prime Minister Donald Tusk one-on-one and meet with President Andrzej Sebastian Duda. He will also speak to the expected 25,000 members of the Indian community.

In the latter’s previous role as the President of the European Council, PM Modi has met his Polish counterpart four times. Additionally, in March 2022, he spoke with President Duda over the phone and expressed gratitude for Poland’s aid in evacuating Indian citizens from Ukraine and for the particular gesture of easing visa procedures for Indian citizens entering Poland from the crisis zone. In 2022, Poland served as a means of evacuation for almost 4,000 Indian students.

We are commemorating 70 years of diplomatic relations with Poland during my visit. In his declaration of leaving earlier today, he stated that Poland is an important economic partner in Central Europe.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declared on Monday that PM Modi will be visiting Poland and Ukraine, saying, “Our bilateral trade is substantial.” Furthermore, Poland is now India’s biggest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe, with a value of almost US $6 billion. An estimated US$3 billion has been invested in Poland by Indians. Additionally, Poland has invested almost $1 billion in India.”
